From a scenic point of view, there are high mountain ranges with valleys along rugged coasts with innumerable small coves and beaches covering 132,000 square kilometres of the country. On your round trip, you will not only see imposing relics from ancient times, most of them belong to the UNESCO world cultural heritage site but the scenic beauty will be remembered too. Trip Schedule
Day 1 Arrival in Athens
“Meet and Greet” at the airport by the guide and drive towards Corinth. After a photo stop at the Canal of Corinth continue to the hotel and check in. Dinner and overnight stay with breakfast.
Day 2 Mycenae - Nafplion - Epidaurus
You start the day with a visit to the excavation site of Mycenae. The first excavations were carried out in 1841, when the lions gate was opened. In 1874 Heinrich Schliemann began his excavations and discovered the royal tombs of the Atrids. Continue to Nafplion, one of the most beautiful city ports in Greece. On the outskirts of the town lies the old- est Ouzo distillery in Greece. Here you will find a small museum where you will have a guided tour with Ouzo tasting. After a guided tour through Nafplion you have free time to stroll through the picturesque streets. Afterwards, you will return to Epidaurus, the cult and sanctuary of Asklepios. Visit to the famous open-air theatre with its incompa- rable acoustics. Before returning to the hotel, take a small detour to an olive press. The olive tree was used in ancient times as a holy tree of the god- dess Athena. Even today, olive oil is used widely in our modern diet. Dinner and overnight stay with breakfast in Corinth.
Day 3 Mystras - Olympia
Today your trip continues to Olympia. First a visit to Mystras, the famous Byzantine town with its churches and monasteries, the Palaces and mansions, the city walls and the peaks. There is hardly a more mystical place on the Peloponnese than this. Then continue to Olympia. Dinner and over- night stay in Olympia with breakfast the following morning.
Day 4 Olympia
The highlight of the day is the visit to the extensive excavation site of Olympia, the site of the Olympic Games. In the museum, you will fall in love with the famous “Hermes” of Praxiteles – a masterpiece of antique sculpture. The lovely Alphios valley with its pines, cypresses, oil and eucalyptus trees form a harmonious backdrop for Olympia – one of the spiritual centres of ancient times. The sanctuary has not lost its fascination to this day. After the guided tour continue via the Rio Bridge to Delphi. Dinner and overnight stay with breakfast.
Day 5 Delphi
Today you will visit Delphi, the “Navel“ of the ancient world, one of the most important excavations in Europe. Terraced, the ancient sanctuary is located on the green slopes of Parnassos and offers fantastic views of the hilly plain with its olive trees and the sea. A tour through the ancient ruins and temple complexes still makes visitors feel the magic of the ancient oracle. Afterwards continue to Kalambaka. Dinner and overnight stay with break- fast in Kalambaka.
Day 6 Meteora monasteries
In the morning you will visit the spectacular monasteries that adorn the rocks like eagles. Erect- ed on pillars 300m high, the Meteora monasteries boldly protrude from the Thessalian plain. In the protective location of the rocks, a handful of hermits founded an orthodox monk community in the middle Ages, which consisted of twenty-four monasteries. Today only six are inhabited. It was only in the year 1925 that steps were constructed that led into the rock. Before that, the monks were pulled up with a rope winch in a basket or they had to climb up a wobbly rope ladder. Continue to Athens. Dinner and overnight-breakfast in Athens.
Day 7 Athens – Acropolis – Plaka
In the morning you will start your sightseeing tour of Athens. The trip goes past the Temple of Zeus, the Royal Palace, the Parliament and Sindagma Square. Afterwards drive to the Acropolis, from where you have a wonderful view over Athens. After the Sightseeing, a tour of the Plaka will take place. Lunch and in the afternoon visit of the new Acropolis museum. The museum presents only findings and objects from the Acropolis. On 14,000 square meters, more than 4000 objects from ancient Greece can be seen. At the end of your trip enjoy a farewell dinner in a cozy tavern in the old town. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight- breakfast in Athens.
Day 8 Departure
Drive to the airport, check-in and return flight.
